I along with my friend, Sanket Hase got a chance to attend Secnet 2006 Workshop organised by the CSE department at IIT,Bombay. It was very well organised and the speakers were simply the best.
Both the workshops @ Secnet i.e Honeypots and Building DMZs were taken nicely by the Great IITans (Mahesh V., Vaibhav Gupta, Sanket Sathe, Saurabh Joshi, Vamsi etc). During the second workshop, they even showed us the IITB network setup done by them. It was simply amazing to see their work and i got to know the power of linux systems in Networks. Also thanx to Mahesh for clearing my doubts and giving me an insight into Ldap.
I feel my work as almost nothing in front of what they have done there...(Anyways, i work alone on the VESIT network and they are a group..so, no regrets)
For the first time, i actually got to attend a seminar by a "Standard Book Author" (as Murugan Sir call it). It was none other that Prof. S. Sudarshan (author of DBMS book along with Korth). His Seminar was very enlightening and made us aware of the latest trends and research in the fields of Database security.
For those people who don't know; i'm placed in HSBC, Software Division at Pune. At Secnet, i met people from my company, who also participated in the Talk. I also got a chance to shake hands with their Big Boss, Mr. Richard Hackworth (Group Head of IT Security) who was there to deliver a seminar. WOW..
Had lots of fun on 3rd Night, when we waited all night at Kresit to participate in the Treasure Hunt. We went upto the 8th level but got stuck there for a long time. This was the time when the IIT guys took a lead and won. The questions were really very challenging and only 1 team completed the Game. Even though, we didn't win, but we had Fun and learnt lotsa things in the explanation session.
Although all the seminars were quite informative and well organised, out of all of them, i liked the following more:
* PKI : Web of Trust (WoT) using GPG - Rukma V.
* Systematic Defense of Web Applications - Ajit Dhumale (VESIT Alumni)
* Fine Grained Authorization in Databases - Prof. S. Sudarshan
* XML Security - Manish Gupta
Anyways, you'll read more on this in my report that i need to submit to Nupur maam. Thats all for now... ciao |
